What can I pump with HECHT Garden Pumps and Water Pumps?

HECHT Garden Pumps and Garden Water Pumps are designed for pumping utility or muddy water. Usable water can be used in ponds and pools, for watering, construction sites, etc.

HECHT Garden Waterworks

HECHT Garden Water Pumps were designed for garden. They can be used exclusively for pumping clean water, any impurities would result in clogging of the pressure vessel. Thus, they can ideally be used for irrigation, pond and pool watering, for example. If you want to use a garden waterworks to supply your cottage with drinking water, it would not be a problem, because garden waterworks have almost the same design as domestic waterworks. However, garden waterworks are not certified for drinking water, so it has never been tested on the presence of harmful substances into the water. Therefore, we don´t recommend to use it.

Surface pumps

Surface pumps can be used for pumping either clean or slightly muddy water. Some types can also be equipped with a pressure switch and a pressure vessel to create a garden waterworks. These pumps have the advantage of a relatively large discharge, but are limited by the suction depth, which, due to the laws of physics, cannot exceed 8 metres. If you want to use the pump permanently, it is advisable to add a suction cup with a non-return valve. This type of pump cannot suck up water, so it is necessary to fill the pump with water before using it. However, if the suction cup in the water source is not fitted with a non-return valve to prevent the water from flowing back out when the pump is switched off, the pump must be primed each time it have been used. These garden pumps are also designed for pumping only drinking water and should not be used for pumping drinking water.

Submersible rotary centrifugal pumps

As we´ve mentioned, the pumps were designed exclusively for pumping water, whether turbid or domestic. From time to time we are asked, (for example, by beekeepers), whether the pumps can be used to pump sugar solution for feeding bees. It is important to remember that any water-soluble impurities increase the density of the water. For example, conventional rotary submersible pumps use the water in which they are partially submerged for cooling. A denser fluid means not only higher power requirements for the pump, which, of course, will have an effect on the engine heating, but also the dense mixture flowing more slowly around the pump, which is then poorly cooles at higher loads. Beekeepers often encounter the problem of an overheated pump that activates the thermal fuse, which can prevent the motor windings from burning to some extent. It is important to remember that activation of the thermal fuse means that the windings have reached a critical temperature and repeated to overheating, despite the thermal fuse, which eventually results in permanent damage to the windings.

Submersible Vibrating Pumps

The great advantage of vibrating pumps is their small size, high performance and high displacement. They can thus be used, for example, in deep wells or boreholes. However, vibrating pumps are very noisy, which is fine when placed in a deep borehole, but if you use them in an above-ground tank, the noise will be a nuisance. Using it in a tank can be not very comfortable, since the vibrating pump must be constantly submerged when pumping to keep it well cooled. It would be necessary to leave approximately 40 - 50 cm of water in the tank at all times, which the pump will be submerged in. The vibrating pump uses a system of diaphragms and valves to function. Therefore, it may only be used for pumping clean water. Any impurities could cause the valves to leak, which would reduce the performance of the pump and gradually the pump would stop pumping altogether. Again, these pumps are designed for pumping domestic water for irrigation, filling swimming pools, ponds and are often used for pumping domestic water on house sites.

In conclusion, garden water pumps and HECHT pumps are designed to pump only domestic water or turbid water, depending on the design (if specified for a particular model).
